Medical Services

     La Crescent has two medical clinics that offer total family care and are staffed with internal medicine/family practice physicians and nurse midwives. Both clinics are associated with hospitals four miles away in La Crosse, Wisconsin. Gundersen Clinic is part of the Gundersen-Lutheran medical complex. Franciscan Skemp Healthcare is part of the Franciscan Skemp Medical Center, a Mayo facility.

     La Crescent also has a dental center - Destination Dental, two chiropractic clinics - La Crescent Chiropractic and Chiropractic First of La Crescent, pharmacy - La Crescent Pharmacy, and full service skilled nursing health care center - Golden LivingCenter.

Emergency Services

     La Crescent Police Department is composed of 8 full-time officers who provide protection for the community. The force is augmented by the Houston County Sheriff's Department when necessary.

      The La Crescent Fire Department is composed of 25 trained fire fighters and first responders and has 3 pumper trucks,1 tanker, 175 foot ladder truck, a rescue truck, and a Jaws of Life, which provides service to outlying areas also. The city currently maintains an ISO classified fire insurance rating of 5. Mutual aid agreements exist with surrounding communities and townships ensuring cooperative backup fire suppression support when needed. The city/town fire station was built in 1989 and houses all equipment as well as providing training facilities for the fire fighters. 

    The 25 La Crescent First Responders are first on the scene of medical emergencies. The first responders receive back up from Tri-State Ambulance of La Crosse.

Library

     The La Crescent Public Library has holdings of over 21,569 items available to the public, with a special selection of large print books. The library has access to materials from other libraries in Minnesota through the state's book sharing program. The library also has a wide selection of audio/video tapes, periodicals and newspapers as well as Internet access.

Childcare 

     Information about licensed day care providers throughout Houston County can be obtained from Houston County Social Services, County Courthouse, Caledonia, MN 55921, 507-724-5811. School District 300 also provides before and after school childcare for school aged children. Contact Community Education for details, 507-895-5150.

     La Crescent has a wide variety of housing available. There are single-family homes, apartments, condominiums and twindominiums. Housing for varied incomes and family sizes is available including two mobile home parks.
