La Crescent-Hokah Public Schools

     School District 300 serves the communities of La Crescent, Hokah, Dresbach and the surrounding area with a total district population of over 9,000 residents. Current enrollment in the preschool through 12th grade program is 1652. School district facilities consist of the Hokah Learning Center which houses kindergarten classes, Early Childhood Special Education and Headstart; the La Crescent Hokah Elementary School for grades 1 through 5; the La Crescent Middle and High School; the Bluff Country Learning Options alternative high school in separate buildings in Hokah; and the Early Childhood Family Education Center.

     The curriculum at La Crescent-Hokah Public Schools aims each learner achieving the Minnesota Graduation Standards and is designed to meet the diverse needs of students while providing comprehensive courses for both college and non-college bound students. La Crescent-Hokah Schools boast state-of-the-art computer labs which support students learning. The elementary, middle, and high schools are accredited by the North Central Association. A variety of learning options are available at both the elementary and the secondary levels.

     All school levels offer students a wide range of co-curricular opportunities. Typical athletic programs are available in fall, winter, and spring including football, soccer, volleyball, gymnastics, basketball, wrestling, cross country, track and field, softball, and golf. Academic teams such as Knowledge Bowl, Destination Imagination and Mathletes are also available. The schools offer comprehensive music programs that have been enhanced with the opening of the new auditorium in fall of 2000.

     Community Education provides all residents with a wide variety of lifelong learning and citizen involvement opportunities. Adult and youth enrichment classes, parent involvement programs and opportunities, early childhood family education and school readiness classes, volunteers in schools and recreation programs are available. School age childcare for kindergarten through grade 5 is available at the elementary school site. Community Choir and Community Theatre programs are available to people of all ages.

Crucifixion School - Kindergarten-6th Grade

     Crucifixion Elementary School is a close, caring family of faith serving students kindergarten through sixth grade. Crucifixion School teaches and practices human life values, dignity, and service to all.

     Crucifixion School is fully accredited by the Minnesota Non-Public Schools Accreditation Association. The curriculum offers traditional Catholic Education plus band, music, and physical education. The school boasts an enhanced school library, a computer lab, and a reading lab. Recently, a three-level addition was added to the school including an expanded kindergarten room, a science-social studies lab, an elevator, a student tutoring room, and a parish meeting room.

     The professional teaching staff is fully trained with all teachers holding elementary education degrees and teacher certificates from the Minnesota Department of Education. The principal is certified as a principal and superintendent.

     A diagnostic team approach is used toward each student's academic development. Tutors are available for students who need extra assistance. Tuition relief is available for families.

     A before and after school day care is provided at the school. It is call Eagle Care.

     A Catholic education can be continued at Aquinas middle School and Aquinas High School in La Crosse.

La Crescent Montessori Academy (LMA)

     LMA is a public charter school sponsored by the Minnesota State Board of Education. No tuition is charged for grades K-6. Enrollment is open to all students residing in Minnesota as long as space is available in the grade level. The education program is based upon the teaching and materials of Dr. Maria Montessori.

     The Montessori classroom focuses on the child as a unique individual with his/her won rate for learning. The Minnesota Graduation Standards are incorporated into the curriculum, which includes, Language, Mathematics, Geometry, Geography, History, Science-Botany, Zoology, Chemistry, Practical Life Skills (care of self and care of the environment), Culture Grace & Courtesy, Music, and Art. Teachers are state certified with additional Montessori training and certification.
