Parks
Frank
J. Kistler Memorial Park hosts the city's swimming pool,
two sand volleyball courts, three tennis courts and a
baseball backstop.
Veteran's
Park is 8.4 acres and has three picnic shelters, a play
area, rest rooms, a soccer field, softball field and open
field.
John
S. Harris Park is 2.3 acres with a play area and open
field.
Valley
South is 1.2 acres with a play area, an open field and
winter sliding hill.
Eagles
Bluff Park located in the north end of La Crescent is 63
bluff top acres and is undeveloped.
Vetsch
Park is located on the west edge of La Crescent and has a
quiet picnic spot with a beautiful view of the river
valley.
La Crescent's newest park will be located adjacent to the
Apple Blossom Acres neighborhood and will feature
handicapped accessible playground equipment.
La Crescent Community Arena
Hockey
tournaments and open skating are held in the arena
throughout the year.
Camping
Pettibone
Resort and Campground offers RV sites with hookups as well
as rustic tent sites.
Overnight tent camp sites are
located near La Crescent at Great River Bluffs State Park
where there is a spectacular river view.
Golf
Pine
Creek Golf Course is a 9 hole 240 acre public course owned
by the City of La Crescent. The terrain is mostly flat but
holes 7 and 8 are rolling terrain. No sand traps, however,
a creek runs through holes 7 and 9. Club house available
with restaurant facilities.
Fishing
There
is great Mississippi River fishing off shore at the Lock
and Dam north of the city. Public boat landing areas are
also located near the Dam.
Hunting
The
Upper Mississippi River offers unique habitat for ducks in
its many sloughs and marshes. Non coastal puddler and
diver ducks as well as geese move through the area in the
fall. Hunters can wade in, canoe or travel in larger boats
launched from the many boat launches along the river.
Birding
La Crescent is located along the Mississippi fly-way. During
spring and fall there is a large variety of migratory
birds, including tundra swans and pelicans, moving through
the area. Just before the river freezes and right after it
thaws are excellent times to see bald eagles.
Hiking
& Biking
The
Dresbach Trail, just north of La Crescent is excellent for
a riverside bike or hike. Hiking trails also run through
Great River Bluffs State Park in Nodine and Beaver Creek
State Park in Caledonia. There are also trails along the
Root River in Houston and Fillmore Counties.
Skiing
& Snowmobiling
Downhill
skiing is available across the river in La Crosse,
Wisconsin. Cross-country fans should visit Great River
Bluffs State Park just north of La Crescent. The park has
trails for skiers of all skill levels and offers beautiful
scenic views of the Mississippi.
Snowmobilers
can join the La Crescent Snowmobile Club to keep up with
trail information. The club also offers groomed and marked
trails, a heated clubhouse with refreshments, food and
rest rooms, parking family events and fun runs.
